From East to West
Jasper was revered in the East, along with jade and jadeite.
There is a myth that the first emperor of Japan (by the way, the great-grandson of the Sun Goddess) received three sacred objects from his great-grandmother. These were a sword, a mirror and a necklace made of jasper. These objects were considered sacred; imperial power without them would be “illegitimate.”
And the Taoists called jasper “the stone of life.” In their opinion, it prolonged life and protected against disease. In medicinal practice, the mineral was placed along with the Taoist panacea for all diseases - mumiyo.
The Buddhists completely agreed with the Taoists in terms of the value of jasper; it was on religious grounds that they had all kinds of graters.
The shamans of Siberia respected the mystical properties of the stone.
Europe began to use the decorative properties of the gem much later than the East. In the Middle Ages, the stone was used purely for medicinal purposes. Pestilence (plague) more than once devastated European cities. Doctors strongly advised everyone to carry a jasper stone in a bag, even unprocessed, as a talisman. But the color of the amulet had to be determined by an astrologer.
Authentication
Jasper is practically not counterfeited. Most often they try to pass off nuggets as turquoise, amazonite and jade. Rare specimens are valued quite expensively, so you need to know how to distinguish a fake from an original.
Distinctive parameters of the original stone:
- The pattern has clear contours.
- Repeated falls will not cause defects.
- A natural nugget heated over low heat will not float.
- Will not heat up to the wearer's body temperature.
- Quite a lot of weight even for a small nugget.
Properties of jasper rock
A rock is not a mineral, not a gem. This is jasper, which contains various minerals, composed mainly of silica.
Based on their composition, three groups can be distinguished:
- jasper itself;
- jasperoids;
- jasper-shaped rocks.
Physical properties and characteristics of the breed:
- the rock consists of SiO2, Fe3O4, Al2O3, CaO (the list goes on);
- rock hardness up to 7 on the Mohs scale;
- density 2.65 g/cm2.
Red jaspers get their color from admixtures of hematite, piemontite, or combinations thereof. The rock often contains garnet, which enhances the red tones.
“Range” of colors from crimson to wax-red, almost brick.
The significance of the breed for humans is not only in bringing beauty to people. Although cute trinkets - vases, boxes, writing instruments - are pleasing to the eye. The use of stone in construction, as a facing material, can be seen at some Moscow metro stations.

Origin
During Neolithic times on earth, Jasper was valued for its hardness. Ancient people used it as a weapon, because when split, its edges are sharp and also have a ribbed surface. These are mainly arrowheads, axes and spears. This fact is confirmed by excavations in the habitats of Neanderthals.
Jasper became widespread in Russia during the reign of Peter I. He liked the unusual variegated appearance. It began to be widely used in decorating the walls and furniture of the palace. Paintings made from thin plates of stone were considered to be of greater value. Jasper, mined from the Ural Mountains, was a priority. For the first time in the Urals, a stone was found on the Tura River: they were red and green specimens, tiger in structure. Downstream there were still Jasper stones similar in composition. The discoverers were Peter and Fedor Babin and Kirill Obvishchev.
Large deposits are located in Russia, Egypt, India, USA, France, Germany and the Czech Republic. Altai and the Urals are considered elite jasper deposits. The first who began to mine Jasper were the inhabitants of Egypt and India.
Let's get the jasper ourselves
Rock deposits are scattered throughout the world. However, the best examples are still in the Urals.
Mining locations:
- Kola Peninsula;
- Ural;
- Altai.
The Ural deposits stretch in a chain from north to south. The main Ural jasper treasures include 8 types of stones, of which red ones include:
- ribbon Koshkuldinsky;
- flowy yamskie;
- Urazovskaya;
- purple berkutina.
Geologists, like true scientists, wanted to “sort out” all the varieties of such different jasper. We wanted to, but it still doesn’t work out. Here nature does not want to fit into dry definitions. We will tell you about some types of the breed.
- One of the most beautiful landscape jaspers is Kalahari. The color range ranges from dark red to pale pink, with a clear and vibrant “landscape”.
- Wax jasper has a red-brown color. Anyone who has seen sealing wax already knows what this stone looks like. For those who haven’t seen them, we inform you that they have a bright brick shade.
Wax jasper - Red-black jasper is mined near Sukhumi. The stone is the color of ripe, even overripe, cherry. Cherry-black, with scarlet “immature” inclusions.
- Red and white Uraz jasper, or “meat agate”. In the report on the discovery of the Urazovsky deposit it is written: “a stone similar to agate looks red with white veins, like a small glass.”
- It would be a stretch to classify heliotrope as red jasper - green-red, “blood-red jasper”, “bloody jasper”. Although its color is green, blood-red splashes, spots, and stripes are generously scattered across the surface (as well as inside the stone).
- Ocean jasper can only be found in Madagascar. And the field is located extremely inconveniently. You can only get there at low tide, and the mined rock is taken out by boat. The beauty of the stone makes up for the difficulties of extraction. However, like heliotrope, it can be classified as a red jasper with a stretch. Simply because its color may be different. And pale red too.
- Jasper-like quartzite irnimite is cherry rhodonite-like. The drawing on a grayish-red background is clear and large. It is formed by “twigs” of brown, black, dark blue stripes. The stone can be red and white, with mandatory inclusions of blue.
Caring for mineral products
To ensure that the product retains its appearance and beauty, please read the care instructions:
- Store jasper jewelry separately from other jewelry. But this rule applies to every precious stone.
- Do not drop the product as it may break or crack. Therefore, you cannot knock on jasper coverings.
- Protect from exposure to alkalis, cosmetics and detergents.
- Do not let the jasper product fall into the fire, do not keep the figurine on the windowsill. Direct rays should not hit the figurine or decoration.
To clean the gem, just wipe it with a soft cloth. If necessary, soak a rag in a solution of water and vinegar. But the solution must be weak. As a rule, jasper inserts do not need polishing. The gem is hard and difficult to damage.
We are treated with red jaspers
Red jasper has an amazing property. For people living in conditions of lack of sun, carrying an amulet or jewelry with a fire stone means to always be warmed and illuminated by the sun.
The breed has an irreplaceable effect on women's health. It stabilizes and normalizes the functioning of a woman’s “gynecological apparatus”. It is advisable to wear it for medicinal purposes as a bracelet, or simply in a jeans pocket or purse.
Lithotherapists endow the stone with the following healing properties:
- Activates the muscle system.
- Reduces bleeding.
- For stomach diseases, it is good for women to wear very long beads.
- Strengthens and heals the musculoskeletal system.
- Promotes normal functioning of red bone marrow.
- Normalizes the blood formula, can increase the number of red blood cells in the blood. This is what lithotherapists say, but scientists have not conducted research.
- Magicians endowed it with the ability to awaken desires and solve sexual problems.
In massage, lithotherapists often use balls, tumbling, and stone wands.
If you have frequent nosebleeds (there can be many reasons), two jasper plates applied to the nose will help stop the bleeding. But look for the cause of bleeding yourself with doctors, the stone will not do it for you.
Interesting: when doing physical exercise, especially in the fresh air (walking, running), it will be useful to wear a bracelet made of healing red rock.
Application
The initial appearance of the red jasper stone is rather inconspicuous; it must be processed. Due to the density, this process is much more difficult than in the case of other stones. If processed incorrectly, the integrity of the gem can be destroyed.
The gem is often used to make various jewelry (rings, beads, bracelets, etc.). If you combine several different shades of jasper, collected in gold, in one piece of jewelry, you can get a truly unique product. Gemstone accessories can brighten up even the most boring look.
The gem is often used to make various interior items:
- figurines;
- caskets;
- paintings;
- dishes;
- bags.
Such items can become a worthy element in the interior of a house or apartment.

Jasper is an amazing mineral with healing and magical properties. Our ancestors knew about them and used them in everyday life. Descendants also adopted the experience. Jasper is used as amulets. But even if you have doubts about magic, choose the mineral as an accessory.
Natural or imitation?
You have to be completely stupid or extremely greedy to counterfeit a stone. Its quantity in nature is quite large. There are places where it just lies under your feet. This breed is easier to obtain than to fake.
Very rarely, imitations made of glass, acrylic, and plastic are sold under the guise of jasper.
Try to spot a fake like this:
- Look at the stone “through the light”. Jasper is opaque, but the fake will be slightly translucent.
- The glass will crack under mechanical stress (oops, hit a pebble). The real stone will remain unharmed.
- Plastic will immediately begin to melt under an open fire. For such a check, a lighter is enough.
- Place your finger on the stone. Natural stone remains cool for quite a long time; It heated up quickly, which means you’re not holding a cheap imitation in your hands.
But such an outrage as counterfeit jasper is extremely rare.
Favorable time to buy
The stone is bought and used on different lunar days, depending on the color:
Type of jasper | Purchase (lunar day) | Beginning of use (lunar day) |
Red, pink | 6 | 20 |
Blue, light blue | 8 | 22 |
Black | 10 | 24 |
Other colors and types | 15 | 29/30 |
Let it be like new
Caring for red rock is not at all difficult:
- As with any decoration, give it a separate “house” - a box, a casket, a bag made of soft, thick fabric.
- The hardness of the stone allows you not to be afraid that it will be scratched by “neighbors in the house.” Well, would you really store diamonds and jasper together (which is unreasonable in principle).
- If your jewelry gets dirty, wash it carefully in soapy warm water, rinse with clean water, and dry with a napkin.
It is advisable to keep jasper products under running water 2-3 times a month (if you believe in the magical properties of stones). This procedure washes away energy negativity.
Note
Beautiful, carrying the centuries-old history of the Earth, endowed with incredible abilities, jasper has been winning the hearts of people for many centuries. Everyone can get something useful from it for themselves or for a loved one.
It is worth remembering that such an energetically strong stone is best used exclusively for good. You should not play with fate by using a gem for magical rituals aimed at bringing trouble. After all, evil will come back many times over.
