Origin of the mineral
The stone is classified as semi-precious and is mined from Vltavin in the south of the Czech Republic. The mineral got its name “bottle” because of its green tint and glassy luster. The surface of the pebble is not uniform - it is covered with bubbles and wrinkles. Geologists explain the origin of the mineral as an explosion of a meteorite that fell to the ground and melted the earth's rock. A meteorite fell not far from the Moldau River, so the pebbles are sometimes called Moldavites.

According to another version, the stones are fragments of a meteorite that did not reach the ground. A scattering of fragments covered the ground near the Moldau River, and since then this unique emerald-colored stone has been mined there. There is a third version - the pebbles appeared at the landing site of an intergalactic alien ship - the earth's rock melted upon contact with alien technology.
Why is the mineral called vltavin? Because the Czech name for the Moldau river is Vltava. The Czechs prefer this name, so it is this name that is assigned to emerald stones.
The mineral was first described by the Czech scientist Josef Mayer, who mistakenly mistook it for chrysolite of volcanic origin. Modern scientists have found that the nature of the stone is different - it is fused meteorite glass.
It is believed that the stone is more than 15 million years old, the main part of which is silica. The uniqueness of moldavite lies in the gas bubbles that formed high above the earth's surface - at least 25 km.
