Tengizite is a gem born by nature, but created by man

Tengizite – rare mineral of technogenic origin, formed as a result of an explosion at an oil production station. The only field is located in Kazakhstan, next to an exploded oil well. The stone has a unique composition. In less than half a century of its existence, it managed acquire legends and superstitions. Even the unofficial names of the breed are appropriate: “dragon glass”, “frozen fire”, “drop of the fiery sea”.

Most Tengizites are blue-blue in color. The rich hue, subtle patterns and beautiful vitreous luster make the stone one of the most coveted collectible materials.

The Tengiz field does not exceed 100 meters in diameter. There are no other sources, world reserves of tengizite are negligible

Due to the rarity of the stone, not everyone gets access to authentic samples. Fraudsters often sell shaitanite, obsidian and other rocks of natural origin under the guise of a man-made mineral. But those who are lucky enough to get real “dragon glass” get a truly unique thing.

Story

The Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan has been exploited since 1979. It is one of the five largest oil holdings on the planet.

Work was in full swing until force majeure occurred in 1985:

  • An explosion occurred at one of the wells, after which it caught fire.
  • Whether this was spontaneous combustion or the accident was due to human fault is unknown.
  • The fire was extinguished 14 months later. During this time, the sand and clay in the surrounding area melted (the temperature level was estimated at 3000°C), turning into a glassy mass with numerous inclusions.
  • The matter ended with a sharp cooling down.

The mineral was classified as technogenic or anthropogenic. That is, it owes its origin to man.

It entered mineralogy as tengizite, named after its place of birth.

Description

Externally, tengizite is glassy fused agglomerates with numerous veins and inclusions.

The heterogeneity of the structure is natural:

  • During the fire, everything nearby came under fire. And this is not only soil, metals, biomaterial, but also drilling rigs and other equipment.
  • The foam used to extinguish the fire also contributed.

Its color range is deep, rich blue-greenish, layered blue or black with smooth transitions from color to color. The veins and inclusions are brown or yellowish-green.

This is rare in the mineral kingdom.

The light blue stone looks like charoite.

What is sun stone

Sunstone is a semi-precious mineral. Its scientific name is heliolite. It belongs to the feldspars. Among the nuggets there are jewelry and non-jewelry types.

The appearance of the gem lives up to its name. It is not always yellow, but all shades have a golden tint. In most cases, many sparkling particles are visible inside the stone. Some specimens have a pronounced cat's eye effect.

The gems are transparent or translucent: they transmit light well and look especially advantageous in the sun.

A real sunstone is heliolite. But some other minerals are also popularly called this:

  1. Aventurine. Cherry, red, yellow or green opaque mineral. Has a shimmering effect thanks to scattered inclusions.
  2. Andesine. Translucent yellow, red, orange, white or greenish gems. Covered with brighter stains.
  3. Labrador. A mineral that combines many shades. It has a bright red gold color.
  4. Microcline. Light orange mineral with brownish inclusions. There is a slight flicker.
  5. Oligoclase. A rare gem that has a high level of light refraction. There are both transparent and opaque minerals.
  6. Plagioclase. Precious and semi-precious gems, usually white. Cast in red gold thanks to scattered inclusions of hematite.
  7. Selenite. Pale yellow mineral with a pearly sheen. Refers to limestone.
  8. Cornelian. The color of the nuggets varies from yellow to bright red. Interestingly, the longer it stays in the sun's rays, the brighter its shade becomes.
  9. Citrine. Bright yellow transparent or translucent mineral.
  10. Amber. The hardened resin of ancient trees is dark yellow or orange.

The minerals are called sunstones due to their similarity to heliolite shades, optical effects or the presence of sparkles. All the described gems have different chemical formulas and physical properties.

Types and colors

There are several shades of sunstone:

  • red;
  • yellow;
  • orange;
  • yellow-green;
  • gray with a yellow tint.

The shades and appearance of gems vary depending on the deposits:

  1. Norwegian. The color ranges from brown to light yellow. There are small inclusions of hematite, giving the rock a slight glow.
  2. Gold of Mexico. The crystals are deep golden in color.
  3. Indian sun stone. It has an orange color with a pinkish-red tint. It is often compared to the sun at sunset.
  4. Oregon heliolite. Famous for transparency. There are red, green, and golden minerals.
  5. Tanzanian "confetti". Inside such minerals there are large sparkles of hematite.

Some sun stones have optical effects:

  1. Cat's eye. After cutting into a cabochon, a vertical luminous highlight appears on the stone, which changes its position when the gem is rotated.
  2. Asterism. The gem refracts light in such a way that the image of a star appears on it.

Tengizite, obsidian, shaitanite

Some believe that the mineral tengisite is a type of obsidian. However, these are different stones: in origin, external and internal parameters. Obsidian generated by volcanoes is black, tengizite is almost always blue.

Tengizite is confused with shaitanite. This is a mineral found in the Urals. Externally and structurally they are almost identical. Nothing is known about the origin of the Ural stone. But the name “Shaitanite” speaks for itself: Shaitan in Islamic theology is a spirit hostile to Allah and man.

Astrological compatibility

Stargazers are inclined to believe that zoisite affects each of the zodiac signs differently. For some, the mineral will be an ideal talisman, but for others, the nugget is contraindicated unless combined with other minerals. Zahualpite promises certain changes for each sign:

  • For Aquarius, zoisite is an ideal talisman, but only for the fair sex. Aquarius women who strive to reach the top will gain the necessary confidence, attractiveness, and prudence.
  • Gemini will attract the necessary acquaintances using zoisite. For women who have problems conceiving, the stone will give them their first child. Men will become more successful in building strong family relationships. The gem is useful for Geminis suffering from alcohol addiction.
  • Aries will be able to moderate their emotional fervor, become wiser and more positive. Natural egoism will move aside, giving way to responsiveness and stability.
  • For Cancers, zoisite is a stone of harmony, peace of mind, bringing a person mutual understanding and success in all areas of life.
  • For active and purposeful Taurus, the talisman promises activation of the best qualities of their character. The mineral literally educates the representatives of this constellation, making Taurus more hardworking and practical. This helps to achieve success in all endeavors.
  • Leos are often guided by emotions when making important life decisions. Zoisite will tame the impulsiveness of Leo, thanks to which people of this sign will become rational, hardworking, more dynamic and less proud.
  • Scorpios, who live by emotions and experiences, need zoisite to restore mental balance. This will help you find mutual understanding with the world around you.
  • Pisces are often unsure of themselves, which prevents them from going ahead towards their own goals. Zahualpit can solve this problem. For Pisces, this mineral is also a love talisman.
  • For Sagittarius, the gem is a barrier from negativity, not only external (envy, black magic), but also internal (bad thoughts).
  • Zoisite will help Capricorns protect themselves from actions that have unpleasant consequences, as well as gain financial independence.
  • For Libra, the main goal is balance. Zoisite will help maintain balance, preventing one of the cups from falling to the negative side. In addition, Libra will develop a desire for knowledge and intuition will develop.
  • Calm Virgos occasionally have outbursts of aggression, which zoisite can stop. This will help improve existing relationships, as well as successfully build new ones.

It is worth noting that the stone will not work independently for all signs. Aries, Leo and Sagittarius need to supplement zoisite with the energy of other minerals - rock crystal, cat's or tiger's eye. In addition to this, skeptical Sagittarius will also need faith in the power of the stone, otherwise the talisman will not reveal its potential and will serve only as a decoration.

Where is the gem used?

Tengizite is classified as a jewelry and semi-precious stone of the second order. But it is so beautiful and rare that only jewelers, decorators and collectors get it.

Jewelry

The mineral is easy to process. A person is bewitched by the strong shine, internal shimmer and glow coming from the depths of the stone:

  • The gem becomes an insert for jewelry accessories.
  • The delicate color of tengizite makes it possible to wear two or three even large items at once.
  • Exclusivity makes jewelry with tengizite appropriate for a status event, social event, or in the office.

Ring from Tengizit
Light stone is suitable even for a child. Darker pieces will add charm to a lady of mature years. A black stone in a ring or ring is a masculine attribute.

Decor

Instances of ornamental quality have found use as decoration. The production of candelabra, photo frames, tableware, dishes, and boxes has been established.

Paintings are created from stone chips; large opaque agglomerates are used for figurines and sculptures.

Collecting

Mineralogists became interested in the stones. The best specimens went to the leading museums of the country (at that time it was still the Soviet Union).

Event participants and local residents left something as a souvenir.

Today, any real Tengizite is a joy for a collector. To avoid getting into trouble, you need to buy it in Kazakhstan or from a reliable person.

Jewelry with mineral

Tengizite is popular among jewelers who love to work with unusual stones. However, jewelry with inserts of man-made gems cannot be bought everywhere. The concentration of specimens is still in the mineral’s homeland.

Product cost:

  • A small pendant measuring 3 cm with a stone in a copper frame – 1300 rubles.
  • Cupronickel ring with an insert measuring 4*2*0.5 cm – 1,500 rubles.
  • Silver jewelry set (ring + earrings) – 5,000 rubles.

This amazing mineral is inserted into bracelets, necklaces, brooches, and beads are made from the stone. Jewelry production is not industrial in nature - individual craftsmen work with stone, creating designer accessories, often in a single copy.

How to identify a fake

The structure and rarity of the stone tempt fraudsters to counterfeit it:

  • Ordinary fused glass is displayed under the guise of tengizite. The randomness and variety of inclusions of a natural gem helps to distinguish a fake.
  • Shaitanite is offered instead of stone. This is a natural, but cheaper gem.

All Tengizites appear brown in the light.

To avoid buying an imitation, just read the description carefully. Almost always, the insertion of the product is indicated as tengizite (shaitanit). Or the Ural river Shaitanka appears as a deposit. And it can only be Kazakhstan.

Magical and healing properties

Professional lithotherapists, healers, and magicians have just begun to comprehend the meaning for humans, the magical and healing properties of the “young” stone itself.

However, legends and “mystical” stories have already been composed:

  • For superstitious people, this is the creation of the devil, which appeared as a result of great misfortune.
  • Romantic natures dubbed it “drops of the fiery sea” (translated from Kazakh “tengiz” means “sea”), “frozen fire”.
  • In order to prevent the stone from being stolen for souvenirs, it was claimed that it was contaminated with radiation.

It has been established that the magic of the stone helps people who are determined, purposeful, and strong-willed.

There are no documented facts of negative influence of the magical properties of tengizite on the owner.

Tengizit and Zodiac

Astrologers also study its influence on the signs of the Zodiac:

  • Tengizite is a product of fire, so we can assume the special significance of the stone for Leo, Sagittarius, Aries.
  • The name, which makes the stone related to the sea, does not exclude its compatibility with the Zodiac signs of the Water element.

But it is more rational to focus on personal compatibility with a specific stone. That is, hold it in your hands, assessing your personal feelings.
